THE THIRD DIMENSION REVIEWS,PREVIEWS NEW DISKS. 3D KIT PREVIEW. ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ INFILTRATION by Robin Ball Atari ST and Falcon. Here is a preview as told by Robin. GAMEPLAY -------- Your basic aim in INFILTRATION is to lay mines on important parts of the alien ship, this would be impossible if you didn't have the help of your on-suit computer. This shows you where to place mines by projecting an image of a large yellow cross apparently on to the floor via a high tech HUD. All you have to do is to walk over the cross and you will automatically lay a mine. Sounds simple huh? Well the problem is that the places where you need to lay mines are never very easy to get to. (Well they wouldn't be would they). There are a total of twenty mines which need to be laid, after which you must leave the ship. This is achieved by leaping down one of the many holes in the floor. (Footnote- Due to the way the game works, it's best to choose a hole that isn't too far below you, otherwise the game might think you've fallen too far and kills you before it has a chance to check if you've fallen out a hole. It shouldn't occur in many locations, so don't worry too much.) Some of the more common problems you will face are lifts and short range teleporters. Lifts always need to be operated by shooting a switch, this is often in the form of a geometrical shape and is quite often hidden in the design of the room. Teleports come in two forms, those which are operated by the use of a switch like lifts, and automatic ones which you simply have to step on. The ship is equiped with anti-intru- der laser guns of varying design. some can be switch off in se- veral different ways and others must simply be avoided. Your suit only has limited energy and this can be reduced by being shot or falling too far. Your energy can be partly replenished by collecting batteries which can be found around the ship. Some parts of the ship are inaccessible until you find certain objects. THE STORY --------- This isn't one of those tired old storylines that pit a single lone warrior against a whole universe of malevolent aliens for the goodness of all mankind. Oh no none of that rubbish for you, you're in this purely for the money. You couldn't care less about the goodness of mankind or the future of the universe, you're only interested in knowing where the next pint is coming from. This is some time into the future and the human race has spread throughout the stars, colonising many newly discovered planets. Trade routes have been set up between these colonies and large companies (not mentioning any names) start to make their fortunes. It is for one of these companies that you are currently working. What has happened is that space freighters have begun to disappear in an area of space soon to be known as the Bermudan Pyramid. Pretty soon no ship managed to traverse the area without vanishing. The big companies began to lose millions (good) and put out an offer of a huge reward to any person who could find out what was happening to all their cargo ships. (even better) You as a hired gun; mercenary and all round free-booter couldn't pass up this opportunity so off you fly to put an end to whatever it is. After flying around for a while with no sign of anything, you round a planet to come face to face with an enormous alien space craft bristling with massive weapons. Thinking this is the end, you close your eyes and wait for the end. When it doesn't come, you run checks over the ship with your computer (after a quick change of underwear). It appears that the ship is temporarily dormant as its pilot is in suspended animation (presumably whilst repairs are being made by a horde of small robots scurrying across the out- side skin of the ship). You realize that this presents you with an ideal opportunity to infiltrate the ship and plant a series of mines to destroy it. Quickly donning your space suit, you rush to the teleporter of your ship. This is where the game starts. More details Next month!Tony
